Love Your Body, Love Your Life is the result of Sarah Maria's personal struggle and transformation, and her desire to help people transform their pain and suffering into love, success, and abundance. Maria knows first-hand the pain and agony that can result from feeling bad about your body, and she also knows the joy, the abundance, the power, and the love that comes when you discover your true beauty, when you discover who you truly are.
When Maria was 14, a sophomore in high school, she decided to go on a diet although she was not overweight. A classmate of hers became anorexic and Maria thought she looked good, so she decided to eat 500 calories per day to lose weight, believing that if she was thin, then she would be popular, lovable, successful, and worthwhile.
This marked the beginning of a decade-long struggle with food and with her body. Although Maria was able to accomplish many things personally and professionally, including traveling around the world, graduating summa cum laude, earning a Master’s degree from Columbia University and a law degree from Stanford, she truly believed that her ultimate self-worth was equal to her clothing size.
She traversed the full range of eating disorders, from anorexia, to bulimia, to compulsive eating during her years of struggle. Fortunately, Maria began to practice yoga when she was 16 and this launched her on a path of health, personal growth, and spiritual inquiry. Many years later, after graduating from law school, she attended an event put on by the Chopra Center for Well-Being. She was at a very low point in her life, beset by depression, loneliness, and agony, but exposure to these particular spiritual teachings launched her on a path of healing that profoundly altered her life.
Within a few months Maria was inspired to write this book to help other people overcome their struggles, beginning her career and receiving tremendous support from many notable experts, including Deepak Chopra and his business partner Dr. David Simon.
I found this book to very inspiring. I've battled with my weight myself, but never to the extent of an eating disorder. I think it's very important to be comfortable in your skin and love you. I'm very fond of Sarah Maria's new outlook on life and ways to bring yourself up from that "low." I think this is a great book for women from teenagers to adults to read, and should read. Society teaches us to be ashamed of ourselves by throwing stick figure models in our faces and saying this is how you're supposed to look. Sarah Maria helps you to realize that this isn't the way to be and you need to love yourself unconditionally.
Your self-worth is an intrinsic part of who you are. You are beautiful simply because you exist. You are lovable simply because you are here.
And when you begin to accept and love yourself unconditionally, just the way you are … everything else in your life begins to change as well:
* Your health improves…
* You begin to experience joy, happiness, and love on a regular basis...
* Your life becomes more fun, exciting, and filled with passion…
* You discover a renewed love for your own body and your life...
* …and rather than trying to change yourself to suit others, you find others changing in response to your new outlook!
